Don’t rain on Emily Ratajkowski’s brat summer.
The model and author, who was criticized for her choice of top during a recent outing, responded to the fashion criticism on social media Tuesday.
Ratajkowski shared a video of the encounter, in which she can be seen walking down the street wearing a tight-fitting gray tank top and black low-rise jeans. A few seconds into the clip, a male voice can be heard chastising Ratajkowski: "Girl, put on a shirt."
The "High Low with EmRata" host seemingly did not respond to the onlooker’s critique in person as she was seen continuing her walk unfazed. However, Ratajkowski edited the video to include a clip from Charli XCX’s sassy club banger "365," taken from the British popstar’s latest album "Brat."

"Famously not demure, famously not mindful," Ratajkowski captioned the post, referencing the "demure" trend on TikTok. The buzzword emphasizes an attitude of being cutesy, clean and mindful, including modest fashion choices.
In contrast, the brat summer aesthetic incorporates styles that are bold, colorful and sometimes provocative, often inspired by Gen Z's revival of Y2K fashion.
According to Charli, the brat summer essentials can go "luxury or trashy." There are no specific rules for how to dress because being a "brat" is all about embracing your individuality. But if there were to be a dress code, there would probably be a lot of Von Dutch trucker hats, baby tees and "strappy white tank tops," paired with low-rise jorts or a miniskirt.
Ratajkowski reflected on her experience of navigating female sexuality in the entertainment industry in her 2021 book "My Body." In an interview with USA TODAY, the 33-year-old said she takes pride in the success and empowerment she achieved from selling her image for a living – on her own terms.
Emily Ratajkowski interview:Being a sex symbol is 'empowering' and 'complicated'
"There are so many things and so much power to be gained from becoming a model or woman who uses her sexuality and image to succeed," Ratajkowski said.
