Local, independent bookstores have never been more important. With fair access to literature under political attack, bookstores are a bulwark against censorship and an asset to the communities they serve.
Each week we profile an independent bookstore, discovering what makes each one special and getting their expert book recommendations.
This week, we’re featuring The Last Chapter Book Shop in Chicago!
What’s the story behind The Last Chapter Book Shop?
Founded by an active member of the romance book community, The Last Chapter offers a diverse selection of books and merchandise. We’ve cultivated an inclusive, welcoming environment for those celebrating the magic of storytelling. Our mission is to continue to support the many members of romancelandia, and connect you with the books you love, the merch you can’t live without, and the authors that are a positive force in the community. Welcome to our little corner of the book world.

Our photo booths! We created interactive photo booths for all readers to come and leave their mark. I also love our seating area. We have a fun pink couch with green chairs to encourage conversations with fellow book lovers.

"Say you Swear" by Meagan Brandy! It is the book that made me believe in true love again.

"Enemies" by Tijan! Their love story was one for the ages and their heroines' character growth was inspiring.
What books or series are you most excited about coming out in the next few months and why?
"Iron Flame" by Rebecca Yarros! "Fourth Wing" was nothing short of extraordinary and I'm so excited to get lost in this world again.

Why is shopping at local, independent bookstores important?
I'm a big believer in blooming where you are planted. It's so important to shop locally and at independent bookstores to grow them. The customer experience you get locally versus shopping at a big chain is unmatched. We care about you, we care about your business, and we are the book lovers you are looking to connect with.
What are some of your store's events, programs, or partnerships coming up this quarter that you would like to share?
We have three Q&A/book signings coming up with Hannah Bonam-Young, Ana Huang and Catharina Maura.
